Sandy soil along both sides of road, although more between river and road. With Chrysothamnus nauseosus, Sporobolus cryptandrus, Bromus tectorum, and Setaria viridis. More abundant between river and road. An estimate of the colony now places the number of vigorous flowering and fruiting plants at several hundred and the colony has spread to occupy both sides of the road. Flowers pale lavender-blue, larger plants to 0.5 m tall. This is a recollection of the colony I discovered in 1974, at which time only about 3-4 plants were established. The initial discovery was related to C.L. Hitchcock and is the basis for the inclusion of this taxon in revised editions of Flora of the Pacific Northwest. Phenology: Flowers.
