Scattered at margin of floodplain, bank of creek draining Bowers Lake, full sun. Trees 5-7 meters tall; twigs dark purple; thorns shiny dark purple, 13-21 mm long; 10 stamens; fruits ovate-globose or depressed-globose, flat base, black, not very bloomy, 10-13 x 10-12 mm wide (fresh); 3-4 pitted nutlets; fall leaves yellowish to orange-reddish.¶Reference specimen for illustration in Revision of Flora of the Pacific Northwest, WTU Herbarium, 2015.
