Plants endemic to Owyhee River watershed only grow on ash tuff outcrops. Associated species include Amelanchier alnifolia, Artemisia tridentata, Bromus tectorum, Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus, Ericameria nauseosa, Eriophyllum lanatum, Festuca idahoensis, Leymus cinereus, Phlox hoodii, Poa secunda, and Pushia tridentata. Subshrub producing primary and secondary stems that are woody at the base. Stems contain retrose pubescence and both glandular and nonglandular trichomes. Leaves are opposite, narrowly elliptic and can be spreading to reflexed. Leaves often contain fascicles. Inflorescences are solitary and occur in terminal glomerules. The glomerules and calyces are straw to green with tinges of purple and corollas bright purple. Pubescence on the calyx sparse and also contains glandular and nonglandular trichomes. Fruit a brown nutlet with some brown mottling. Phenology: Flowers.
