Dunite rock along a narrow, subalpine ridge crest; full sun, exposed, with very sparse cover of Smelowskia ovalis, Sabulina rubella, Carex scirpoidea, and Juniperus communis. Petals white, oblong to obovate, ca 1.5-2.2 times length of sepals, tip rounded to retuse; sepals ovate-lanceolate, obscurely veined in life, 1-veined when dried; plants forming low, loose to crowded mats 4-12 cm diameter (one plant with loosely sprawling stems to 20 cm long); local and uncommon in rock crevices and on patches of mostly bare gravelly soil along ridgeline.
