Wide, sloping valley bottom, heavily infested with weedy naturalized grasses that are encroaching on patches of native vegetation. Low-lying regions which retain water longer into the season seem to be more resiliant to competition from non-native grasses. Soil clay, within matrix of chunks of basalt. Locally abundant but otherwise rare and threatened species. Plants herbaceous perennials from globose tubers. Often 3+ stems arising form each tuber. Plants acaulescent, deep purple-tinged throughout aerial parts. Leaf blades deep green adaxially, purple below. Flowers butter-yellow when new, fading to white as they age. Associates: Lomatium canbyi, Lomatium gormanii, Crocidium, Poa spp. Silica gel-dired material is available upon request. Phenology: Flowers.
