Small weedy strip between street and sidewalk, in topsoil, not yet planted; growing with Conyza canadensis, Lycopersicon esculentum and single Amaranthus retroflexus plant. Mostly short plants to 0.5 m; leaves variously green or red dominating, but red colour largely disappeared after pressing; inflorescence thickly dense, beet red; bracts mostly > styles; stigma branches parallel, erect; utricle dehiscent, circumscissile; seeds black, ca. 1.5 mm; ca. 50 plants.
