~ 80 year old stand of PIPO with PSME, PIPO and Juniperus occidentalis understory. About half the plot is bare of trees, trees scattered in lower half of plot. Dominant animals (at least most visible) are cows and horses- there are animal tracks, cow pies and horse dung throughout the plot. Other scat as well. Moderately sloping, N-facing, rocky site with fair amount of exposed soil from animal overuse. Most of this area of the forest (along the 10 miles drive on the 6370) is being used for cattle grazing and soils are pulverized from grazing, trampling, and overstocking. Abundance code: 4; mixed packet; grey; Juniper had a lot of Xanthoria & Candelaria with small amounts of Melanelia. PIPOs had high LETCOL & LETVUL cover. Young trees mostly bare. Very low Bryoria, except Nodobryoria.
