Expansion of the PNW Herbaria Portal to include bryophytes, fungi, and lichens.
June 30, 2009
The PNW Herbaria Portal database now includes non-vascular specimen records, with initial datasets provided by OSC, NY, and WTU representing 115,000 bryophyte, fungi, and lichen specimens. At WTU databasing efforts are in progress to capture all bryophytes, fungi, and lichens specimens from western Oregon and southwestern Washington and make these available through the Portal web site. OSC provided a static dataset of ca. 40,000 fungi and 5000 lichen specimens. NY provided a static dataset of 60,000 bryophytes, fungi, and lichens specimens from the states and provinces included in the PNW Portal region. Several additional non-vascular specimens collections from Idaho and British Columbia will soon be added to the Portal database.
