Collecting area north side of a willow swamp on the east side of Highway 10. Creeks flowing east. Grows in small clumps. Stems: 6 inches to 4 feet tall, scraggly. Twigs: this year's growth dense whith pubescence on hair and last year's twigs generally pruinase. Leaves: 1/8 to 3/8 wide, 1-2 1/2 long, wides 3/4 of length from base; upper surface dark shiny green, surface not smooth uneven; lower surface dense with wool; blade thick. Ament: one to two inches long; with short stalk with 1-3 leaf-like small scales; dense at maturity. Pods: dense while pubescence, compared to other willows; short-tuck cervical. Style: almost 1 mm long. Pedicel: short about 1 mm long. Grew in open bog. Soil probably poisoned to some degree by tailing and water from Anaconda and Butte smelters. My field notebook reference 6-12-47-h-1. Phenology: Fruits.
