Thickets in partial shade of slender row of Pinus ponderosa, Pseudotsuga menziesii, with Prunus virginiana, Symphoricarpos albus, Crataegus okanaganesis, C. atrovirens. Shrubs 2 m tall, leaves shuny dark green, convex, turning dull purple, thorns 17-40 mm, fruits 11-13 x 11-13.5 mm wide, bright red, globose, 3 pyrenes, 10 stamens. Phenology: Vegetative.
