Vacant lot, in preload gravelly and sandy fill after Highway 17 construction use; growing with abundant Eragrostis tef, some Echinochloa crus-galli and Panicum capillare. Abundant and apparently hydroseeded following recent Highway 17 construction into dredged sand fill sites; erect annual, yellow-green, to 1 m tall; plants taller, more erect, lighter green, more open panicles than the common weedy form in BC; the latter being more decumbent at base, often purplish tinged, and wider spreading plants with panicles often partially enclosed in sheaths. the latter called var. geniculatum (Alph. Wood) Fern; this one was var. dichotomiflorum, native to the southeast US and probably originating from the US in the hydroseed mix, both varieties treated in subspecies dichotomiflorum in Flora of North America.
