Muddy banks of slough, with Carex obnupta and Phalaris arundinacea, bordered above by Rosa pisocarpa. Very robust, erect, rhizomatous plants to about 1 meter tall; corolla 5-6 cm (tube and throat ca 3-4 cm), yellow with red dots in throat; throat open; style puberulent; calyx and pedicels densely puberlent, eglandular; stems glabrous; leaves ovate, dentate, distinctly petiolate; scattered in patches along edges of slough, where partly inundated at high tide.
