Gravelly highway, east shoulder above former orchard which is now a grassy slope, with Lactuca serriola, Grindelia squarrosa and Eragrostis minor. 60 plants, up to 2 m tall, with up to 4-5 basal stems, small reddish flws, wand-like spikes and hard deciduous indehiscent fruit; described as annual but 3 or 4 first year rosettes noted; introduced weedy species from Central North America; first collection in BC; extirpated by clearing in 2003.
