Moss and duff over buried rock, under Acer circinatum thicket in open montane forest of Tsuga heterophylla and Abies amabilis. Leaves deep dull green, reflexed, narrowly lanceolate to more or less parallel-sided, 0.9-1.4 mm wide; gemmae broadly obovate, deep green, in 1(2) pseudowhorls at tip of annual growth increment; stems robust, to ca 20 cm, erect, in a small diffuse patch in moss. Phenology: Spores.
