Moist, cobble beach lightly shaded by Alnus incana, with Spiraea douglasii, Apocynum androsaemifolium, Dichanthelium acuminatum. Corolla reddish-purple, lower lip with whitish markings, tube ca 1.5 x as long as calyx; calyx lobes ca 2/3 length of tube, deltate with long, subulate tips, outside surface short-hispid and with a few gland-tipped hairs; leaves narrowly elliptic-lanceolate, ca 4 x as long as wide, bases cordate, petioles 2-4 mm long; stems retrorsely hispid with long hairs on angles and short hairs across sides, eglandular throughout; rhizomatous perennials with sprawling, freely branching stems rooting at nodes; a few small patches of plants widely scattered along shore; native to Eurasia.
