On limestone just above contact with white quartzite. Mixed Douglas fir, limber pine, subalpine fir forest. Associated with Valeriana, Castilleja miniata, Paxistima myrsinites, Poa wheeleri and columbine. Spikes mostly less than 1 1/2 cm; gynycandrous, perigynium 4-5 mm long x 1 mm wide, winged margin, serrulate at the distal end onto the beak. Phenology: Flowers & Fruits.
