Montana: Beaverhead County: Sheep Mountain, Pioneer Mountains; Ridgeline between Sheep Mountain and Black Lion Mountain. Elev. 8700 ft.
45° 39' 46" N, 112° 57' 52" W
Pure white limestone gravel and cobbles; windswept ridge at limber pine krummholz; vegetation sparse and mostly mat-forming or very low growing; with Carex, Musineon, Ipomopsis, Erigeron. Phlox muscoides, Zigadenus elegans, Sedum lanceolatum; whitish yellow Castilleja, Dryas octopetala, and Lidia obtusilobia.¶ Petal deep yellow, sepals pale yellow; locally abundant on Southwest-facing slope of ridge.
